Soaring Rhapsody

In praise of gliding:

Much is written about the science, technological, pilot skill and "faster, further, higher," competitive and personal achievement aspects of our sport. What is lacking in my view is true recognition and appreciation of the beauty, pleasure and spiritual essence of soaring that motivates us to fly gliders - whether to gain badges, achieve personal bests, set records, win competitions or simply  to revel in the joy of motorless flight.

In a nutshell, soaring  is a serendipitous  blend of art and science. The science is essential, the art optional. It is the art - poetry in the sky – though, which gives the pleasure.
